President Obama delivered his State of the Union address last night, so while the pundits pour over all the details of the speech, I though it was fun to review Mrs. Obama’s designer dress selections from the past. Which one is your favorite?
Last night, Mrs. Obama stepped out in a grey tweed Michael Kors skirt suit. The suit boasted a wide collar and zipper detailing. (She has worn this designer several times including for her official White House portrait.)
For the 2014 occasion, Mrs. Obama wore an emerald green dress with stripe detailing and a cropped jacket designed by Azzedine Alaia. A black belt at the waist accessorized the look.
In 2013 the First Lady chose a sparkly sleeveless dress by Jason Wu (the same designer she chose to create most of her Inaugural attire). The custom red organza tweed flounce dress was from the designer’s Pre-Fall 2013 collection and an Alexis Bittarlucite flower pin at the shoulder finished the look.
In 2012 a blue piece by Barbara Tfank was selected. The First Lady’s stunning sapphire blue twill dress came from the designer’s resort 2012 collection. The Los Angeles-based designer also created standout pieces for the First Lady in 2010 and 2011. It was accessorized by an elongated marquis pin from Alexis Bittar.
In 2011 she choose a stylish, fitted sheath dress for the State of the Union Address by Rachel Roy. The silver silk shift dress was part of the designer’s Fall 2012 collection. The First Lady kept accessories to a minimum, wearing drop earrings and a stack of lucite bangle bracelets, all by Kara Ross.
A gorgeous wintery plum ensemble by Isaac Mizrahi was selected for the President’s State of the Union address in 2010. It was accessorized by a simple strand of classic pearls.
